ABLE stands for Adult Basic and Literacy Education.
We are also known as "The Adult Learning Center."
We assist those who are earning their GED,improving their skills for college entrance exams, improving their skills for employer based exams, reviewing their skills in order to assist their children with homework, and brushing up on their math, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
Since September, 2001, Massillon ABLE has served nearly 1,500 students with 12 or more hours, including 200 students this year alone. More than 350 students have earned their GED as verified by the Ohio Dept of Education, with 43 of those earned this year.
Moreover, members of the 2008 graduating class aspire to continued education: Many are enrolled at Stark State College for fall term, another student will take part in an apprenticeship class, and yet another student began a paramedic class. College students participate in our program in order to strengthen their writing, reading, and math abilities, so they can successfully pass their college classes. Recently a former student sent ABLE officials an invitation to attend her college graduation to see her receive a degree in nursing from Kent State University.
Some ABLE students are English Speakers of Other Languages. Currently a student is studying for her citizenship test, and recenty a student earned her American citizenship. Other students enroll to sharpen their mathematics and reading comprehension abilities so they can pass an employment examination or help their children with homework.
For whatever reason students enroll in ABLE, they all leave with improved academic skills and self-esteem. ABLE is a place where dreams come true!
